Before The Blonds or Laquan Smith, the man all the ladies ran to for their onstage sparkle was none other than the Sultan of Sequins himself, Bob Mackie. An anchor in the pantheon of fashion, Mr. Mackie designed iconic looks for a plethora of divas, including Tina Turner, Diana Ross (with and without the Supremes), and Cher.
Don’t think he just costumes the women who sing “our parent’s music” either. Eva Longoria, Pink, and Jennifer Lopez can all attest to his immense talent as well, and we certainly wouldn’t mind seeing his work more frequently! Getting his big break in 1961 as a designer for Paramount Studios, Mackie’s work spans throughout the fashion landscape, most notably for Collector’s Edition Barbies, and his creations for the long-running Las Vegas Show “Jubilee!”
